The Democratic Republic of the Congo is located in Central Africa. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is bordered by the Central African Republic and Sudan to the north, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania to the east, Zambia and Angola to the south, and the Republic of the Congo to the west.
Joseph Kabila became Congo's president when his father Laurent was assassinated in 2001. He was elected as the President with 58% of votes He gained a mandate through the ballot box to rule the vast country as its elected leader in an election in 2006. Although other provinces have yet to see the benefits of peace and democracy, Katanga is enjoying a spectacular economic boom. Katanga has a wet and dry season. Rainfall is about 49 inches per year (120 cm). Copper mining is an important part of the economy of Katanga province. Katanga Province has limited railway service centered around Lubumbashi.
